A few things you might have learned about the Browns as well as myself during the 27-17 whooping the Browns handed to the Houston Texans:
#1 - Apparently,
I cannot spell the word "recover" on a Treo to save my life. I was previously unaware, but the club section's bar doesn't have to stop serving until after the game is over...probably not a good idea to blog there in the future. Less Drinking, More Blogging - Check.
#2 - Give Jamal Lewis 25-plus carries, and in return, you will get 100-plus yards. This man is truly punishing defenders, and quieting those who said he no longer had what it takes to be a feature back in the NFL. His 134 yards places him just outside of the top ten backs in the league, and if he keeps running as hard as he has been the past couple weeks, he could finish with his sixth 1,000 yard season.
#3 - It seems not only does
Brandon McDonald dance, he plays a little bit of Defense, too. The rookie cornerback was bumped up into the Browns' Nickel package after Eric Wright's knee injury, and man did he play well. McDonald finished the game with 4 pass defenses and an interception, his first as a pro. Good to see the young guys step up in a time of need. Good game, Brandon.
#4 - Jamir Miller might be the only Brown to have been to the Pro Bowl in 5 years, but he might soon have plenty of company from this year alone. Josh Cribbs, Kellen Winslow, Eric Steinbach and Braylon Edwards should, by all rights, be locks for Honalulu. Other players that could get leied are Derek Anderson and Joe Thomas.
Speaking of Thomas, with Adrian Peterson out of commission, is there any doubt that JT should be at the very least a front-runner for Rookie of the Year? Also, did anyone else see him manhandle Mario Williams throughout the game? The only action Mario got was on a play where (if I remember correctly) Thomas blocked down and someone else had missed him off the edge.
#5 - If you
were not aware before have been dead or in a coma all season, you might just be noticing that Kellen Winslow and Braylon Edwards are simply beasts. Winslow pulled in 10 catches (is there anything this guy can't grab?), and people can hardly deny anymore that Winslow is the best tight end in the game today.
With the way our young guys are stepping up and some decent play on defense (finally), the Browns are showing us that we are finally watching a legitimate playoff contender in Cleveland. On a playoff note, with the Titans losing to Cincinnati yesterday, we're in the lead for the AFC wildcard spot, and if Miami is able to pull off a Jets-style miracle and upset the Steelers tonight, the Browns will be tied for the lead in the AFC North - not including the tie-breaker.
